Nancy Rost: Music

The Path

(Nancy Rost)

Before I walked I learned to crawl
Before I stood I learned to fall
But one day I awoke from sleep
To find I'd made a giant leap

The current running down my spine
A travel pass, a railway line
A snowy day, a downhill sled
The path where love has led

Shuffle the cards and pick a fate
Cars passing on the interstate
I drove before I learned to fly
And saw my choices from the sky

A cloverleaf, a circuit grille
A wildflower-studded hill
A kitten with a ball of thread
The paths where love has led

Strand by strand the knots release
An open hand, a gift of peace
Incantation, candles lit
I flew before I learned to sit

Knitting needles, woolen hat
A fireplace, a sleeping cat
A heavy quilt, a single bed
The path where love has led
